TOLEDO, Ohio (WNWO) – A Toledo resident has started an organics company after seeing a need in her community.
Sonia Flunder-McNair wants everyone to have access to good, healthy food.
Her mission is to teach people how to plant and maintain their own garden.
“We do not have to have food as a scarce resource, we can plant,” said Sonia Flunder-McNair, CEO of Sonia Organics. “If we don’t have a yard, we can use a container to plant.”
On Wednesday, she planted one outside Family House. This was a particularly special day, as she lived in Family House many years ago.
“We are passing at alarming rates because we are not eating correctly. Food is powerful, food saved my life,” said Flunder-McNair.
Soil, gloves, and plants were all donated.
Sonia even had some help from the Lourdes University’s Upward Bound Program. The program makes sure high school students succeed.
